Job description

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are central to ENGIE’s strategy driven by decarbonization, decentralization, and digitalization. Indeed, BESS are an important piece of the global decarbonization drive providing flexibility to systems and portfolios by replacing part of conventional generation (coal exit), complementing increasing renewables buildout, and supporting to balance power grids (ancillaries) and save excess energy (arbitrage). Several countries have been identified standing out as promising for BESS investments, as they show strong potential for capacity deployment over the coming years, driven by ambitious decarbonization targets, projected exponential growth in renewables, and retirement of ageing conventional power plants.

ENGIE is uniquely placed to deliver on these objectives as 3 Global Business Units are active in BESS deployment: front-of-the meter grid connected BESS and residential BESS (GBU F),front-of-the meter grid-connected paired with renewables (GBU R) and behind-the-meter at client’s premises (GBU ES).

Our worldwide presence, strong industrial capabilities, and local anchorage as well as a deep know-how in power management and trading (GEMS) will allow us to develop integrated solutions for systems, internal portfolio needs and our customers across the value chain: from development through construction into operations, portfolio optimization while providing ancillary services and flexible power when required.

Role:

As a Data Stream Leader, you will take part in the BESS Digital Program, developed by the Global BESS Business Team (GBBT). You will work for the Chief Digital Officer to structure a common data model and governance at Engie’s industrial scale, to deliver business solutions leveraging Data sciences. Your role will involve collaborating with project managers of the program and functional teams (business, IT and digital) within Engie by providing the level of expertise needed to build a vision and achieve business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute actively to the success of the Digital Program’s Data stream, in close collaboration with the program managers (vision, organization, delivery, stakeholders’ management).
  • Structure a common data model and governance at Engie’s scale for BESS projects.
  • Define, in close collaboration with business stakeholders, Data Science and AI roadmap – identification of valuable use cases with business purposes.
  • Define and implement action plans related to Data topics, on the entire value chain of use cases: acquisition to analytics.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineers and project managers (both internal and external to the Global BESS Business Team).
  • Develop the team’s expertise in data and data sciences.

Hard skills – Must have:

  • Proven experience (min 5 years) in a senior leadership role within data-driven ecosystem.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving mindset, ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Agile leadership: champion Agile approach and practices to ensure projects are adaptive, iterative, and deliver concrete business value.
  • Data management: proficient in data governance, data quality/lifecycle management. Knowledge of data modeling, database design, and data integration.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (Python, SQL), big data architecture (AWS, Azure) and in data visualization tools.
  • Machine learning and AI: understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts and experience in applying related algorithms to solve business problems.
  • Appetite for business challenges in the energy transition industry.

Good to have:

  • A previous exposure to industrial-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects

Soft skills:

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap effectively between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Influence and leadership: ability to navigate and lead through change, drive organizational and cultural shifts, engage with senior managers.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Bias for action and delivery and willingness to explore innovative solutions.

Languages:

Both fluent in English and French.

Travels:

Occasional travel required (up to 25% of the time).
